"About Me"
My name is Pam Walker and I am 54 years old. I am the mother of two beautiful children, a son and a daughter. I have five beautiful grandchildren, three girls and two boys. The oldest is 10 and the youngest is 2 months. I work in Childcare in Reidsville. I have been in this career for about 18 years total now. I have had my own home based center, and have worked for several different Childcare Centers as assistant and lead teacher and held a director position for awhile. I am currently working at a Center. My career has changed over the years. Started out as assistant teacher in several age groups. Now I cook for the Center that I am at and go into the classrooms in the afternoon and maintain the Food Program and do office details when needed. Anyone that has been in this profession knows that it changes from day to day and you do what is needed at the time it is needed. It is very rewarding in many ways. Dealing with children is amazing. One thing I have noticed over the years is the change in how and why we do the things we do regarding the education of our children. Well back to "me". I am single. About 6 years ago I ended a 31 year abusive marriage. Probably the hardest thing I have ever done. But also the smartest thing. I guess after 54 years of living the best advice I could possibly give is don't wait 50 years to figure out that it is not your job to make anybody else happy. It is your job to make yourself happy. And please love yourself enough to not settle for less than what you deserve. I am now happier than I have ever been in my life. I have a great family and friends that have supported me through my good times and my bad times. I am attempting to finish my associate degree in Early Childhood Education, which to me is amazing at my age. College is a lot harder than it was 30 years ago. My goals at this stage in my life is simple. I simply want to be happy and enjoy what I do and enjoy watching my grandchildren grow up.

What I would like to leave every child with.
One of the most exciting things about working in Childcare is the fact that you get to have an impact on the child's life that is far reaching. If you are in this business for any other reason you need to get out. We spend so much time with these children, that we have the grand opportunity to leave them with some great gifts. Some of the gifts can be to learn to respect themselves and others. We can teach them that respect is not given, it is earned. We can teach them that it is important for them to do their best and give every thing they do their greatest effort. If I could leave one thing to the children as far as education is concerned it would the love of reading and books. If they learn to love this they can go anywhere and do anything. They can take adventures and see places and things only allowed in the imagination. It would be a great legacy to leave behind.
